Cakes are starting to take the back burner to cupcakes today. Why? You might ask. There are a couple of reasons this is happening; one is because there is a big cupcake craze going on right now. With shows like Cupcake Wars, the amount of cupcakes being sold and consumed has soared. The second reason is cupcakes are cheaper than a cake.
Let’s break this down a bit further. Cupcakes are considered a cheaper alternative to wedding cakes because they cost approximately $2.50 to $3.00 per cupcake. Many DIY brides make their own cupcakes to save them even more money. Also, by having cupcakes brides can eliminate the cake cutting fee and you don’t need to buy a cake topper. Guest can pick their own cupcake color and flavor they desire.
What makes cupcake so great besides the cost savings? They are just fun. You can individually customize your cupcakes to match your wedding colors. You can also have a variety of flavors. The can double as your centerpiece or can be grouped together to look like a cake.
I like to consider them perfectly portioned mini-cakes.
Cupcakes of course are not just for weddings they are popping up everywhere, bridal showers, baby showers and birthdays.
There is another new trend in desserts too, cake pops. However, that is a subject for another day.
To piggyback on a previous last post, Pinterest is a great way to get cupcake and centerpiece ideas.
