The rose is one of my favorite flowers. I believe roses are popular because they come in so many colors, are durable and typically available all year round.

Simply Top 10 Ways to Use Rose Petals

1. Scatter the petals around the base of a centerpiece or around the cake. Sometimes I spread the petals thinly or lay out each petal down into the perfect position. Other times I just want an opulent, overflowing look and will scatter them in larger groups.

2. One easy way to use rose petals it to fill a cylinder vase with petals; add water, and the place a floating candle on top. You will need the petals from two roses to fill and 8-inch tall vase.

3. You’ve probably seen rose petals scattered down the aisle with a flower girl. A fun twist would be to make a pattern down the center of the aisle. When guest arrive just seat them from the side aisles instead.

4. To make a rose bowl, fill a short or shallow vase with water then float an open rose in the center. Add petals around it until you have filled all the space to make it look like a giant rose.

5. Float a couple of rose buds in a large cylinder vase filled with water.

6. Make garlands that can be incorporated into your centerpieces, hang them on the backs of chairs or from candelabras with scattered floral cocktails and petals round the base.

7. To create the classic pomander, glue petals on a Styrofoam ball, using colors that coordinate with your event design.

8. You can also make a composite bouquet. Use one open rose in the center, then glue petals around it to give it the look of one giant rose.

9. Use rose petals to garnish a drink. Note: It’s important to remember that there are no regulations on pesticides with flowers so I strongly recommend using only organic flowers for drinks

10. Event outdoors? Try adding rose petals one by one to the inside of an umbrella.

Woman Making A Difference Award

Each year Senator Lou Correa picks out a handful of women in Orange County that have made positive and impactful changes within their community.  This year I was lucky enough to be one of those women.  I am happy to announce that  I am a Woman Making a Difference 2014!

Along with being honored, I had the pleasure of being asked to help plan that evening’s event.  It was exciting enough to be recognized, but to be asked to help plan the event.  Wow! Never saw either of those coming.

Council Woman Diana Carey nominated me for this amazing honor and I am greatly humbled that she would choose to even nominate me, yet alone actually win the award.

She choose to nominate me based on  my work as the Secretary of Kiwanis of Westminster and my help with planning their annual events which include, The Taste of Westminster, pancake breakfasts and more.

I was lucky enough to have both my parents attend along with my boyfriend by my side that evening to support me.

Obtaining a California Marriage License

Probably the number one question I get asked is, “How do I get a marriage license?”  It seems like the hardest part of getting married, but it is actually probably one of the easiest parts.

You do not need to be a California resident to marry in California.

To marry in California, the two parties may not be already married to each other or other individuals.

You can get one of two types of marriage licenses.  Let’s break down each of them within the state of California.

Winery Wedding Wedding Rings Simply Radiant Events

Marriage License:

You can get married in any county in CA.

Blood tests are NOT required to obtain a marriage license in California.

The license is filed by the county clerk and becomes public record.

1 or 2 witnesses required to sign at the time of the wedding.

Valid for 90 days from date of issue.  If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid. You must purchase a new license.

May obtain certified copy after wedding (for additional fee).

Can be obtained from county clerk’s office.

Both parties must appear in person and bring valid picture identification to the County Clerk’s Office. Valid picture identification is one that contains a photograph, date of birth, and an issue and expiration date, such as a state issued identification card, drivers license, passport, military identification, etc. Some counties may also require a copy of your birth certificate.

If you have been married before, you will need to know the specific date your last marriage ended, and how it ended (Death, Dissolution, Divorce or Nullity). Some counties may require a copy of the final judgment if your previous marriage ended by dissolution or nullity.

Confidential Marriage License:

You must get married in the county you purchased the license.

It is filed by the clerk, but it does not become public record.

Blood tests are NOT required to obtain a marriage license in California.

No witnesses are required to sign, however, a deputy or notary journal will act as a witness.

Valid for 90 days from date of issue.  If you do not get married within 90 days, the license will no longer be valid. You must purchase a new license.

May obtain a certified copy after wedding (for additional fee).

Can be obtained from a county clerk’s office or authorized notary publics

Couple must be living together as man and wife.
